ADOPT A CHERRY TREE

The Trust for the National Mall is proud to partner with the National Park Service and friends like you to steward the trees. They require year-round care and tending to bloom. Damage from ever increasing foot traffic, effects of the changing climate, storms and daily flooding pose an ongoing threat to the trees. The cost to maintain and care for the Cherry Trees far outweighs what the government can provide in funding — a nationwide public-private partnership with philanthropists was critical to bringing the trees to Washington and is needed now more than ever to provide for their critical care. With your help, the trees will flourish for centuries to come.

Donate to Adopt a Cherry Tree – at any level – or join the Adopt a Cherry Tree Campaign as an Ambassador - a great way to connect with people and work towards a shared purpose:

  • Individual trees can be adopted for a gift of $1,000.

  • Adopt a Cherry Tree Donors will be featured on our campaign website and on social media.

  • Donors can also give in smaller increments to help support the longevity of the trees:

    • $500 - Adopt a “Branch”

    • $100 - Adopt a “Blossom”

    • $25 - Adopt a “Flower Bud”

  • You can also become a Cherry Tree Ambassador — sharing your support for the trees on social media or starting a fundraising team with friends. To become an Ambassador, email us here!

  • For each tree that is adopted for $1,000, the individual or team leader will receive a certificate to show gratitude and for the number of endowed trees.

The Trust for the National Mall has partnered with the National Cherry Blossom Festival to launched the Adopt a Cherry Tree Campaign with a goal to raise over $3.7 million for to provide a maintenance fund that helps take care of the ongoing annual needs of the trees. We seek ambassadors like you who share our commitment to environmental sustainability and who are willing to join our mission to preserve this cultural landscape and living symbol of friendship and diplomacy.

Public -private partnership with individual philanthropists was critical to bringing the trees to Washington and is still needed today.

The Adopt a Cherry Tree Campaign offers donors an opportunity to support an individual tree either through a direct donation of $1,000 for each tree, starting a team to collaborate with on peer-to-peer fundraising, or creating a fundraising page to reach a goal to endow one or more trees. Interest from the Cherry Tree Endowment will provide critical funds to the National Park Service tree maintenance team for annual care and maintenance, including tree pruning, soil remediation, and select tree replacement plantings.
